The Science

Low-Intensity Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (LI-ESWT) is a non-invasive treatment approach that has been studied for erectile dysfunction (ED), particularly in men with vascular-related ED.

Research suggests that LI-ESWT may support erectile function by promoting biological processes associated with blood flow and tissue response. Clinical outcomes vary between individuals, and not all patients with erectile dysfunction are appropriate candidates for treatment.

Unlike oral ED medications, which are generally taken to assist erectile function around the time of sexual activity, LI-ESWT is being investigated as an approach aimed at improving erectile function rather than providing only an on-demand effect.

Studies have reported improvements in erectile-function measures in some appropriately selected patients. However, results vary, and additional research continues to evaluate treatment protocols, patient selection and the durability of treatment effects.

Treatment plans should be individualized following a clinical assessment. The number and frequency of sessions may vary depending on the patient's condition, clinical response and treatment goals.
